President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz re-elected

Incumbent President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz has won the general election, as expected, which took place last Saturday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) announced the provisional results yesterday afternoon, saying that 749,865 of the 1,328,168 registered voters had participated, a turnout of 56.46%. There were 33,200 invalid ballot papers and a further 10,877 blank ballot papers recorded.

The full results as published yesterday on the Agence Mauritanienne d’Information website are as follows:

Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz: 577,995; 81.89%

Boydiel Ould Houmeid: 31,773; 4.50%

Lalla Meryem Mint Moulaye ldriss: 3,434; 0.49%

Biram Dah Ebeid: 61,218; 8.67%

Ibrahim Moctar Sarr: 31,368; 4.44%.
