Published

President Dimitris Christofias has announced that he won’t seek a second term in office when his term runs out in February 2013.

The president had committed himself to resolving the long standing split between the Turkish dominated north of the country and the Greek south. He does not believe that this is now possible in the remianing part of his term and is honouring the commitment he made when elected in 2008.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Rally (DISY) has selected party leader Nicos Anastassiades to stand as their candidate in the 2013 presidential election.
