Presidential contest today

Published

Twenty-three candidates will compete for the post of president today. In reality the likely winner will be the current incumbent, Paul Biya of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, who has been in power since 1982.

His closest likely rival and long time opponent is John Fru Ndi of the Cameroon Social Democratic Front (SDF).

Around 7.5 million voters will vote between 8.30 a.m. and 6 p.m. local time. The constitutional council will then have two weeks in which to declare the result.
