Presidential election goes to second round runoff


Croatia will go to a second round runoff on 11th January 2015 after the first round was inconclusive yesterday.

Incumbent President Ivo Josipović emerged as the top candidate in the first round with 38.46% of the vote, well down on the figure predicted in pre-election polls. He will face Kolinda Grabar Kitarović of the centre-right Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) in the second round; she took 37.22% of the vote according to the Central Elections Commission 6 a.m. tally this morning.

Two other candidates stood in the election, Ivan Vilibor Sinčić (Human Barrier NGO) who took 16.42% of the vote and right-wing Milan Kujundžić (Alliance for Croatia) who took 6.3%.
