Duterte is a colourful and controversial figure. Standing on a single issue campaign of solving crime he has been accused of but not charged for using extrajudicial killings to curb crime in his successful campaign to solve the crime problem in Davao City. He is renowned for what he describes as “gutter language” and has an extremely poor taste in jokes.

Rodrigo Duterte stood as the candidate for the left-wing Philippine Democratic Party-People’s Power (PDP–Laban). His slogan during the campaign was “Courage and Compassion.” You can find out more about Rodrigo Duterte and his running mate for Vice-President Alan Peter Cayetano on their website here.
