Ruling party consolidates hold of parliament

The ruling right-wing Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) has consolidated its hold on the country’s 101 seat National Assembly by taking 55 seats and 49.17% of the vote in last Sunday’s general election. The centre-right and Pro-Russian Tsarukyan Alliance which is dominated by the Prosperous Armenia took 30 seats and 27.35% of the vote according to preliminary results.

Two other parties/blocs crossed the threshold for representation; the Way Out Alliance (Yelk) which consists of Bright Armenia as well as Republic and Civil Contract took nine seats and 7.78% of the vote and the left-wing Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) took seven seats and 6.58% of the vote.

Turnout was 60.86%.
