Ruling party win local elections

Prime Minister Hun Sen’s party, the Cambodian People’s Party won convincingly in the local elections held on 3rd June.

A number of media sources are reporting that the ruling party won 1592 of 1633 commune chief posts as announced by the National Election Committee.

The Cambodian People’s Party have been in power since 1981 and are expected to be returned in next year’s general election. The local polls were seen as a test as to the party’s current level of support.
