Ruling party wins majority in General Election

The Rally of Houphouëtists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP) party of President Alassane Ouattara has won an overall majority following Sunday’s general election.

The RHDP won 167 of the 255 seats in the National Assembly with 75 Independents taking the bulk of the rest of the seats. Three other parties shared the remaining 12 seats between them with the party of the former president, Laurent Gbagbo, the Ivorian Popular Front taking three of those seats.

Turnout was just 34.10%.
