Seanad final results

The final results for the Seanad elections have been announced with Fianna Fáil doing better than expected after their general election wipe-out. The results are:

Fine Gael 18 seats
Fianna Fáil 14 seats
Labour 9 seats
Sinn Féin 3 seats and
Others 5 seats

The Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, still has to nominate eleven other Senators.

The Senate has 60 members, 49 are elected by the universities and from candidates put forward by 5 vocational panels, whilst 11 are nominated by the Prime Minister. Members serve five year terms. The Senate are not elected by popular vote.
