Second phase in Uttar Pradesh

The second phase of the seven part Uttar Pradesh state legislative assembly election takes place today. A total of nine district will be voting including Azamgarh, Gorakhpur, Ballia, Ghazipur, Maharajganj, Deoria, Mau, Sant Kabir Nagar and Kushinagar.

In phase two 1,098 candidates will be fighting for 59 of the 403 legislative assembly seats. There are 19.4 million people eligible to vote in this phase and they will be voting across 20,426 polling stations between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. local time.

The result of the election won’t be known until all phases have been completed and the count is concluded on 6th March. Whatever the result it should give an interesting insight into the likely result of the next general election in 2014.
