Published

Uruguay’s Presidential election is expected to go to a second round which will be held on 30th November following yesterday’s general election.

Frente Amplio’s (Broad Front) candidate, former President Tabaré Vázquez, came first in the polls with 44.02% of the vote with his Partido Nacional (National Party) rival, Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou coming second with 32.88% of the vote. The Partido Colorado (Colorado Party) and its candidate, Pedro Bordaberry, have already indicated that it will support Luis Lacalle Pou; they took 14.03% of the vote at the last tally.

Fourth party candidate Pablo Mieres of the Partido Independiente (Independent Party) took about 2.62% of the vote. Figures shown are the latest but incomplete result of the election.

Results trickling in for the parliamentary election look as though the Broad Front has also lost its overall majority in the Chamber of Deputies and Senate.
