Second round of the general election is held today

Congo Brazzaville or Republic of the Congo votes in the second round of their general election today.

There are 144 candidates standing in those constituencies where no candidate received more than 50% of the vote in the first round on 15th July.

In the first round the ruling Congolese Labour Party (PCT) took 57 of the 69 seats announced for that round. The remaining seats are to be elected today.

The National Assembly has 137 seats and the ruling PCT is expected to regain an large majority after today.
