Second round on 1st October

Although five of the 14 seats in by-elections were filled last Saturday, another nine were inconclusive and will go to a second round. In the second round the top two highest voting candidates will be involved in each runoff.

So far, of the 18 seats vacated by Al Wefaq MPs in February, four were elected unopposed, five were elected last Saturday and the remaining nine will be known on 1st October.

Turnout for the first round on Saturday was just 17.4%, well below the predicted figure of 30% and a victory for Al Wefaq who had asked voters to boycott the elections.
