Senate elections in September

Elections for the 12 senators to represent provinces in the next Senate will take place on 26th and 27th September. The eight year single term mandate of the existing Senate is nearing its end and the National Electoral Commission has urged provincial and sectoral councillors to exercise their vote.

The Senate, the upper house of the bicameral parliament, consists of 26 members, 12 of whom are elected from local government, eight are appointed by the president to represent historically marginalised communities, four by the Political Organisations Forum and two by academics of universities.
