Senate indirect election today

Published

The Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) of Prime Minister Hun Sen is expected to win the Senate or upper house indirect elections today.

The Senate is selected by local officials and members of the National Assembly or lower house and consists of 61 seats.

In the 2006 election the Cambodian People’s Party won 45 seats. The CPP holds 90 of the 123 seats in the lower house.

The Senate holds no real powers and only rubber stamps legislation going through the lower house.
