Thaksin’s sister to run for Prime Minister

Published

The Pheu Thai Party has nominated Yingluck Shinawatra, the 43 year-old sister of ousted PM Thaksin, as their prime ministerial candidate for the 3 July election. If the opposition party wins the contest, which is expected to be close, she will become the country’s first female PM.

Yingluck Shinawatra is a businesswoman with little experience of politics and is widely seen as a stand-in for her brother. Her nomination as the party’s candidate was unopposed.
