Today is polling day

Today, Friday 4th March is polling day in the Samoan general election. The Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP) are expected to win the election. The HRPP has ruled continuously since 1987.

The HRPP are being challenged by a new political party which is a grouping of opposition MPs and disaffected ex HRPP members, the Tautua Samoa party. The party has put up 42 candidates in 39 of the 41 electorates.

The HRPP already has two seats which were uncontested.
