Turks and Caicos Islands hold General Election

The British Overseas Territory of Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean is holding its general election today. There are 19 seats in Legislative Council with 52 candidates standing in 13 single member constituencies with the remaining six seats going to three appointees by the governor, the Speaker of the House, Chief Secretary and the Attorney General.

The approximately 37,000 voters will vote between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Three political parties standing;

People’s Democratic Movement (PDM); won seven seats in 2012, 15 candidates
Progressive National Party (PNP); won eight seats in 2012, 15 candidates
Progressive Democratic Alliance (PDA); failed to win any seats in 2012, 12 candidates

There are also ten Independent candidates.
