Upset on the cards

Published

Early results would suggest that opposition leader Michael Sata of the Patriotic Front (PF) is in the lead in the presidential election which took place on Tuesday.

Some local newspapers are reporting the electoral commission as saying that in the first 33 of 150 constituencies Michael Sata has compared with incumbent president Rupiah Banda who has 34%.

Sata is said to have done well in the so called ‘copperbelt’ as well as urban areas. Sata is said to have even given Banda a close contest in the current president’s strongholds in the east of the country.

Full results are not expected until Friday or Saturday.
