Urtubey returned


Incumbent governor, Juan Manuel Urtubey, of the Justicialist Party declared himself the winner of the Salta provincial election which took place yesterday (Sunday 10th April 2011).

With 50% of the ballots counted Urtubey had taken 53% of the vote.

Governor Urtubey made it clear that people had voted for a governor and not a delegate of the national government. He also stated that in his second term he wanted to do more to help the poorest.

The election also saw a vice governor, 11 senators, 30 provincial lawmakers, 59 mayors and 318 town councillors elected.

Alfredo Olmedo of the Salta Somos Todos Party and a wealthy businessman came second to Urtubey.
