VMRO-DPMNE in the lead

Published

The latest opinion poll from the IPIS Institute puts the ruling Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization – Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity or VMRO–DPMNE comfortably in the lead in readiness for this Sunday’s snap general election.

The poll gives VMRO-DPMNE around 22.6% of the vote, with the main opposition party, the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM) on 15.4%.

The ruling party’s junior coalition partner, the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) has 6.4% and the ethnic Albanian party, the Democratic Party of Albanians (DPA) has 3.6%.

Around a third of those interviewed said that they would not vote with just over 10% saying they hadn’t yet made up their minds.

Another opinion poll which was not verified showed the SDSM ahead by about four percentage points.

The campaign itself has become increasingly vitriolic and personal, something which the parties agreed not to do at the start of the campaign.
