Voting heavy in presidential election

Voting was said to be heavy in the presidential election yesterday (Saturday 16th April 2011). President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to win the poll, but heavy polling for his main opponent, Muhammadu Buhari in the north of the country could mean the election goes to a second round.

A presidential candidate has to receive more than 50% of the vote plus at least a quarter of the vote in two thirds of the 36 states. If Buhari is able to prevent this from happening then th election could go to a second round.
