Voting today in general election

Published

The 475,496 voters of Guyana will vote today for 65 members of the National Assembly.

There are four parties or alliances running in the election. The ruling People’s Progressive Party (PPP) is facing strong challenges from the Alliance for Change (AFC) which some observers are saying could win enough seats to determine who runs the country for the next five years.

The other major force is the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), an alliance of four parties, The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), the Guyana Action Party (GAP), The National Front Alliance and the Working People’s Alliance (WPA).

There are 2,000 polling stations across the country which will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
