Saudi Arabia

Will have local elections

Published

The Saudi government has announced that there will be municipal elections in April, probably on 23rd April for municipalities.

Saudi Arabia held its first municipal council elections for 40 years in 2005. They were due to hold further elections in 2009 but these were delayed for two years.

The move would suggest a further attempt to try and prevent protests similar to those happening elsewhere in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
