Abe Cabinet gains in approval ratings

A poll published in the Asahi Shimbun suggests that there has been a surge in support for Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his Cabinet.

The poll gives the Cabinet a 50% approval rating, the first time since March 2014 according to the newspaper. The poll suggests that the approval rating has gone up by 8% since January whilst those disapproving of the Cabinet have dropped to 31% from 37%.

The poll also looked at the reaction of the respondents to the murder of two Japanese nationals by ISIL in Iraq as well as reaction to the Prime Minister’s comments on his end of the Second World War anniversary statement.
