Aid with conditions for Afghanistan

Published

International donors have committed to providing $16 billion in aid to Afghanistan over the next four years to 2016. However the aid will be given only if Afghanistan implements measures to combat corruption and put in place better financial management systems.

About 70 countries attended the conference with the United States pledging around $4 billion, the Japanese providing $3 billion and the Germans slightly more than $2 billion.

Other conditions included in the deal were better human rights, rule of law and continued democratic process.
