Air force commander goes

Published

General Mohammed Saleh al-Ahmar, the sacked air force chief has finally agreed to go after a week long standoff with the president. Al-Ahmar, a half-brother of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh had refused to leave his post and had threatened action against the new president.

Elsewhere in Yemen, government troops recaptured Zinjibar, the capital of the southern governorate of Abyan after months of being in the hands of Al-Qaeda rebels.

Both events will strengthen the hand of President Abd Rabbuh Mansour al-Hadi as he tries to rebuild the country after months of protests against former President Saleh and the subsequent Al-Qaeda insurgency.
