Berlusconi will not stand in 2013

In an article in La Repubblica today Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has confirmed that he will not be standing in 2013. He also confirmed that he would be handing over to the current Justice Minister, Angelino Alfano.

When asked if he would stand again he went on to say ‘absolutely not’ and that he would like to leave now. He also expressed the view that the other parties in the coalition government, especially the Northern League would accept Alfano. He said that he had no interest in standing as president.
