Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi won a confidence vote in the lower house Chamber of Deputies yesterday. The vote was won by 317 votes to 293 in the 630 chamber.

The Prime Minister went on to say that he would not bow to calls for his resignation but would lead his government through to the next elections in 2013.

The vote is reported to be the 44th confidence vote of the Berlusconi government since it came to office in 2008.
