Cabinet resignation announced

Published

State-run TV in Syria has announced that President Bashar Assad has accepted the Cabinet’s resignation. The outgoing Prime Minister, Muhammad Naji Otari, is to be caretaker prime minister until a new government is appointed.

The announcement is seen as the latest concession in an attempt to appease the people following further mass protests. It is also expected that the president will address the nation in the next 24 hours and announce the lifting of emergency laws and other restrictions on civil liberties.
