Cabinet submits bare bones budget

The Cabinet of Liberia has submitted a draft national budget to the House of Representatives for fiscal year 2012/2013 amounting to $649.72m.

Finance Minister Amara Konneh submitted the draft bill which will cover the next three years and has been dubbed in some quarters as the Bare Bone Budget .

The New Dawn Newspaper reports that the budget will contain measures that include government investment of $15 million to construct a hydro plant adding 10 MW within 18 months.

They will also invest $10 million to rehabilitate the Mount Coffee Hydropower plant, and another US$20 million on transmission and distribution infrastructure.

The government will invest $10 million for the rehabilitation of the Roberts International Airport in Margibi County, $11 to rehabilitate the Freeport of Monrovia and the ports of Harper and Buchannan.

Further infrastructure spending will include $13 million towards road and bridge construction and $8 million on repairs of existing roads and bridges.
