Change of mind

Published

Aung San Suu Kyi and 42 other members of her National League for Democracy (NLD) party will attend parliament today and be sworn in as members of parliament.

Last week the NLD members had said that they would only swear an oath which was altered to say that they would ‘respect’ the constitution rather than ‘safeguard’ the constitution. They have, however, changed their minds and will today take the oath unchanged.

It would appear that the change of mind has come about as a result of grass roots opinion that they should take up their seats and continue their campaign from within the parliament.
