Published

Brian Cowen the Irish Prime Minister and leader of Fianna Fáil survived a no confidence vote on his leadership last night.

Mr Cowen was challenged by Foreign Affairs Minister Micheál Martin who subsequently resigned from the Cabinet although, purportedly, on good terms with the Prime Minister.

There is to be a Cabinet meeting today at which the date of the general election will be discussed.
