Đukanović nominated as prime minister

Published

Former prime minster Milo Đukanović is to return to frontline politics in Montenegro after a two year break. President Filip Vujanovic has nominated him as the country’s new prime minister following last month’s elections.

A veteran of post-Yugoslav politics, Đukanović was prime minister or president in every government since 1991, until his decision to pursue a business career 2 years ago. The new government will have to revive an ailing economy which is projected to grow by only 0.5% this year. It will also face pressure from the EU to root out organised crime if the country is to stay on track in its bid to join the European Union.
