Election Bills fast tracked

Published

The first reading of three election bills was passed yesterday (23rd March 2011) in the Thai House of Representatives.

The bills include amendments to the Political parties Act and the Election Commission Act. They will now go through the committee stage which should be completed within two weeks, allowing the Prime Minister to move an election in early May.

In a separate move the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) has called for a boycott of the election.
