The election dates for the French presidential and parliamentary elections have been set.

The presidential election will take place on 22nd April and 6th May 2012. The National Assembly elections will take place on 10th & 17th June.

Prior to that there will be an electoral college made up on national and local elected representatives who will vote for half of the upper house, the Senate, seats on 25th September 2011.

Current president Nicolas Sarkozy is expected to stand for a second term, but at present poll ratings may find it a tough fight. His personal approval rating is standing at just 32%, the lowest for any president at this stage in the electoral cycle.
