Published

The Electoral Boundaries Review Committee of Singapore has completed its review and their recommendations have been accepted by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

A number of changes have been made, including the creation of 12 single member constituencies up from nine; the number of Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs) with six members has fallen from five to two and 11 five member GRCs have been created.

2.35 million Singaporeans will be entitled to vote for 87 MPs, up from the current 84 MPs.

The country starts its Budget debate on Monday (28th February 2011) and this is expected to last for two weeks.  A decision about the election date is likely to be taken after the budget process is completed.
