Election roadmap agreed

Published

The negotiators of the Global Political Agreement have finally come to an agreement on a roadmap for elections in Zimbabwe.

A report was finalised yesterday which will go to the three party leaders and the South African facilitators.  The three areas which all parties agreed upon for an election to go ahead were;

1.  The lifting of sanctions

2.  Completion of the constitution making process

3.  Enactment of amendments to the Electoral Act.

The announcement was made by the Zanu-PF negotiator Patrick Chinamasa, but there was no comment from the MDC negotiators.  This would suggest that there is some divergence over the way forward, especially as ZANU-PF leader and country President, Robert Mugabe, has said that he wants elections this year.
