Expansion of container port

Published

Transport Minister Jarupong Ruangsuwan has proposed that the Laem Chabang port in Chon Buri should receive a B120 billion (£2.3bn; $3.81bn) port extension.

The port, which handles around 54% of Thailand’s imports and exports, is expected to reach its 10.8 million TEUs capacity by 2019. It is currently running at 5.6 million TEUs annually but the expansion of the port which would be a third phase would allow it to take up to 18.8 million TEUs annually.

The project will include a new wharf and upgrading or roads and railways serving the port.
