Finance Minister presents budget

Finance Minister U Hla Tun presented the 2012-2013 fiscal year budget to parliament yesterday.

The details of the budget have not been published by the government as yet, but a report in the Irrawaddy says that military spending is to fall from 23.6% of total government spending in the current fiscal year to 14.4% in the next fiscal year.

Spending on health and education is to rise from 5.4% to 7.5% with education at 4.7% and health at 2.8%

The debate on the budget in parliament will begin on 10th February and conclude on 17th February.
