First elected parliament takes control

Published

In a highly symbolic move late last night the National Transitional Council (NTC) handed over to the newly elected National Congress one year after the fall of Tripoli and the ousting of Muammar Gaddafi.

NTC Chairman Mustafa Abdel Jalil handed over to the oldest member of the 200 seat National Assembly, Mohammed Ali Salim.

Reuters reports Jalil as saying “The National Transitional Council hands over the constitutional duties for leading the state to the general national congress, which from now on is the sole legitimate representative of the Libyan people.”
