Fourth person dies in police custody

A prominent Shiite businessman has died whilst in police custody in Bahrain. The businessman, Abdul – Kareem Fakhrawi was arrested after going to a police station to complain about a police raid on his home. His death follows that of blogger Zakria Rashi al-Asherri and two other Shiites in police custody.

In the past two weeks there has been a dramatic crackdown on protests in Bahrain which has led to a number of deaths of protesters in this Sunni monarchy with a population which consists of 60% Shiites. The government says that the protests are being driven by Iran.

In a village north of the capital Manama, police discovered weapons and ammunition in a Shiite mosque.
