France in debt forgiveness deal

France has agreed to a debt forgiveness deal which will wipe $4.76 billion of debt from the impoverished West African country. The announcement was made on Wednesday after President Alassane Ouattara had met with President Fran├žois Hollande in Paris.

The agreement was attacked by supporters of former president Laurent Gbagbo who is currently facing charges of crimes against humanity in the International Criminal Court (ICC).
