Greece

Government loses another MP

Published

Another MP, this time from the minor coalition party Democratic Left (DIMAR) party has left the government.

Member of Parliament Yiannis Miheloyiannakis handed in his resignation from the party on Monday and will now sit in parliament as an independent.

The move follows the sacking of a New Democracy (ND) party member on Monday after he spoke against austerity measures being forced upon the government by the so called troika.

Moves to come up with a solution to labour reforms are still being discussed by the three government coalition partners, but the Democratic Left are finding it increasingly difficult to support reforms which will weaken worker’s rights. The reforms are being imposed by the European Commission (EC), European Central Bank (ECB) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) ‘troika’ of Greece’s international lenders.
