India agrees to purchase 126 French fighter aircraft
The Indian government has signed a deal with Dassault Aviation for 126 of their Rafale fighter jets. The deal is worth $11 billion and will see the first 18 fighters bought outrights with the remaining 108 being built in India with a deal on technology transfer.
The deal is a major boost for Nicolas Sarkozy as he goes into the presidential election in April. Dassault had warned that if they didn’t receive an early order they would have to make large scale redundancies.
