Interim Government resigns

Published

Eygypt’s state-run newspaper, al-Ahram, has announced the resignation of the military-backed interim government. The decision was said to have been taken after a 15 minute Cabinet meeting. Housing Minister Ibrahim Mihlib is expected to replace Hazem Beblawi as Prime Minister.

The current Defence Minister, Field Marshal Abdul Fattah al-Sisi, is widely expected to run for President, a move which necessitates him leaving the government. Al-Ahram cites an unnamed source as saying the government’s resignation was a move towards an expected announcement.
