Ivanishvili picks new cabinet


Bidzina Ivanishvili has proposed his choice of candidates for a number of key posts in a new Georgian government. He has indicated that he may reduce the number of ministries overall. According to the Georgian Dream website, the list of those nominated so far is:

Irakli Alasania Defence Minister and Vice Premier
Maia Panjikidze Minister of Foreign Affairs
Irakli Garibashvili Interior Minister
Kakha Kaladze Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure and Vice Premier
Tea Tsulukiani Justice Minister
Davit Kirvalidze Agriculture Minister
Paata Zakareishvili State Minister for Reintegration
Alexi Petriashvili State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration
Amiran Gamkrelidze Minister for Labour, Health and Social Affairs
Sozar Subari Minister for Corrections and Legal Assistance
Levan Kipiani Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs
Guram Odisharia Minister for Culture and Monument Protection/td>
Kote Surguladze State Minister for Diaspora Issues
Nodar Javahishvili Head of the National Bank
Archil Kbilashvili Chief Prosecutor

A number of key posts are yet to be named – amongst them the Education and Energy ministers. Ivanishvili also announced today that the leader of the Republican Party, Davit Usupashvili, would be the Parliamentary Chairman.
