Japan announces bad trade deficit figures

The dispute with China over the East China Sea islands known as the Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu islands in China saw Japan/China trade drop by 14.1% in September.

As a result Japan has posted its worst trade figures since 1979 according to Japan Today. Japan’s monthly trade deficit for September was 558.6 billion Yen (£4.4 billion; $7 billion). For the same period last year the country had a surplus of 288.8 billion Yen (£2.3 billion; $3.6 billion).

Imports rose by 4.1% whilst overall exports fell by 10.3%.
