King orders Cabinet reshuffle

Published

King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has ordered a reshuffle of Bahrain’s Cabinet amid the current growing protests. Four new ministers have been appointed. They are:

Majeed Al Alawi, a Shiite, is the new Housing Minister
Jameel Humaidan has been promoted to become Labour Minister.
Nizar Al Baharna, another Shiite, is the new Health Minister.
Kamal Ahmad Mohammed Ahmad is the new Minister for Cabinet Affairs

One change of name for a ministry has been approved. The Oil and Gas Affairs Ministry under Abdul Hussain Mirza will now be called the Ministry of Energy. This ministry will now cover the cover the Electricity & Water Authority and the National Oil & Gas Authority.

This Cabinet reshuffle is unlikely to dampen the demands for an elected government and Cabinet.

Meanwhile a hardline dissident, Hassan Mushaimaa, has returned to Bahrain having received a royal pardon for his alleged involvement in an earlier coup attempt.
