Left Alliance leaves government coalition

Published

The Left Alliance has withdrawn from Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen’s National Coalition Party (KOK) led coalition government.

The decision was taken after the government decided to go ahead with a €3 billion spending cuts package which will affect welfare payments.

The five other parties in the coalition guarantee the Government a majority of 112 seats in the 200 seat Suomen eduskunta or parliament.
